Registered attendees for the 2024 Summit may attend one mobile workshop on Friday, April 5, included with their registration. Select the ticket for the mobile workshop here by March 29.
E-Waste Recycling
RecycleForce is an end-of-life electronics recycling facility that was recently built just east of downtown. Join us for a tour and mobile workshop on how e-waste is demanufacturered, sorted, shredded, baled, and shipped off to manufacturers around Indiana—boosting the circular economy. NOTE: The facility is fully accessible. Guests should wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared to wear a hard hat. Participants will walk 1/2-1 mile during this mobile workshop.
Sustainability at the Speedway: Racing toward Zero
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is committed to becoming the most sustainable racing venue in the world. During this mobile workshop, attendees will tour sustainability operations at the track and hear from sustainability leaders at Penske about the journey toward a greener future in the automotive industry. Participants will also receive a tour of Shell Eco-Marathon Americas, a unique, closed to public event where regional, local and world championship teams compete in the ultimate battle of energy efficiency to design, build and test-drive their vehicles in the spirit of creating a cleaner energy future. The tour will be rounded out with an opportunity to visit the IMS Gift Shop.
Take a Nature Break with Earth Charter Indiana
This event is designed to give participants a refreshing break from the cityscape while learning about botany, birds and the emotional benefits of nature. Colleen and Miranda, from Earth Charter Indiana, will welcome guests to Eagle Creek Park and share about the work that they do with ECI. Guests will then have an opportunity to explore the park in a small-group format with about 30 minutes in each station. We will rotate through a self-guided tour of the Ornithology Center, a guided botany and plant identification walk with Colleen, and an introduction to Eco-Therapy with our certified Nature Therapy guide, Miranda. This workshop is guaranteed to reconnect participants with the many benefits of an organically beautiful space.
Taking Sustainability to New Heights
The Indianapolis International Airport is taking sustainability to new heights and will provide a driving tour of the airport stopping along the way to discuss key initiatives and successes. Key points will include renewable energy PV & UV, microgrids, fleet electrification, public charging, public art, Envision, runway project carbon capture technology, hydrogen, SAF and LEED campus.
Exploring Indy’s Cultural Trail on Two Wheels
Utilizing Indianapolis’ bikeshare program, Pacers Bikeshare, participants will learn about this remarkable urban asset, an 8-mile bicycle and pedestrian path that links all of downtown Indy together. We’ll explore the Cultural Trail, but also hit some off-trail spots, such as the famous The Idle Park in Fountain Square. Helmets are required and will be provided; the ride will be leisurely, but we will travel about 10 miles. Bring your water bottle!
Campus Conversations for Community Collaboration
Join this workshop to explore how faculty, staff, students, and community members are collaborating across the layers of the university system and into the community at large to develop experiential learning opportunities and advance campus sustainability in the built and natural environments. Attendees of this workshop will participate in interactive conversations led by climate leaders at Midwestern universities while also seeing up close how the IUPUI campus serves as a living laboratory to test innovative sustainability solutions. If you are in higher education and interested in deeper engagement across your college or university system or if you are interested in collaborating with higher education as a community member, business, or local government, you will enjoy these campus conversations and walk away with new ideas and potential partners.
