POSITION | Director of Sustainability

Shane Stennes is Director of Sustainability for the University of Minnesota. Shane’s work includes leading climate action for the University’s Twin Cities campus, one of the largest campuses in the country with 52,000 students and 24 million square feet of facilities. Over the past decade the campus has reduced emissions 39% and has a goal to reduce emissions 50% by 2021 on the way to carbon neutrality by 2050.

Prior to becoming Director of Sustainability in 2015, Shane had a variety of positions including Chief Administrative Officer for the University’s Facilities Management department, Sustainability Coordinator, and Human Resources professional. He has a BA in Political Science and International Relations from St. John’s University and the College of St. Benedict, and a Master of Human Resources degree from the University of South Carolina. 

Shane serves on the Executive and Steering Committees for the Midwest Climate Summit.
